Wheat MSP hike: Cabinet approves Rs 160 increase; fixes price at Rs 2,585 per quintal
Last year, wheat MSP was fixed at Rs 2,425 per quintal for the 2025-26 marketing year, PTI reported. Wheat is the main rabi crop, sown from late October with harvesting starting from March, alongside other rabi crops such as jowar, barley, gram, and lentil.Briefing the media after the Cabinet meeting, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said, “The Cabinet has approved MSP of six rabi crops for 2026-27 marketing year.
Wheat MSP has been fixed at Rs 2,585 per quintal.”The wheat marketing year for 2026-27 will start from April, with the bulk of procurement concluding by June.
The MSP decision is based on the recommendations of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP), the minister added.For the 2025-26 crop year (July-June), the government has set a record wheat production target of 119 million tonnes, against the estimated 117.5 million tonnes achieved in 2024-25.
